Spacer is an independent courier, delivering valuable, low-mass goods, such as data (on physical storage), medicine, luxury goods (antiques, wood, art), and military personnel. Anything that cannot wait weeks or months to be delivered and is worth the fee can be shipped.
The torchship he is on, Wishful Thinking, accelerates faster than the standard sort of ships, where the crew would be killed by 20+ G's of acceleration, hence the tank he is in, which keeps him alive. Jump drives can only take a ship within a certain safe radius of gravitational bodies, meaning the first and last parts of a delivery generally cannot be done with FTL wormhole jumps. This is a niche job, but pays well, and has a lot of downtime (which is used for streaming).
Generally Spacer is within the JumpNet FTL comms network, and can stream across hundreds of lightyears from the Far Suns Coalition to Terra, where there is a hidden, unlisted JumpNet node, connected to the Terran Internet.
Spacer is confused by the apparent low technology level of Terrans, but has learned to not ask questions, and loves memes too much to not keep at it. Perhaps one day he will be able to find out what is causing this discrepancy.
