For boss try to keep TRIPLE or PUNCHER, anything with additional wideness is desired.
Noppy is ok, but avoid laser/shotgun.
I can't think of better tips than simply git gud.
Also, for normal runs:
Start thinking with combos.
Weapon is literally your additional time/boost to decide when to land next, attacking enemies is secondary.
By playing 4-X few times you should be able to get 100+ combos easily.
For aqua levels eating bodies for health is really good.
Always stack on health, you'll get charges from weapons anyway.
