You and I clearly are talking about completely different things and you are talking about a completely different thing from what the anon in the first post you replied was talking about.
What you are describing is not

Everything you wrote is about immersion, to delve deep into the storytelling and see the world through the eyes of the character and, by extension, the author of the story.
That is NOT what is being talked about and I don't even think you understand what "self insert" is in the context that is being talked.

The origin of the expression comes from the fanfic world (and the fiction world in general) where the author would create a "self insert" character with "self" being in the literal sense, an avatar to the author. Here is an example of what is being talked

Everything that is said about "self insert" relates to this and not to "immersion".
When the original post mentions that the homobeggars want bland homos to "self insert" that's exactly what is being talked about
