Anyone who pretends this isn't a thing isn't being realistic, they are living in the realm of pure fantasy.
Of course, such veto powers are only needed in extreme cases where the ship is intentionally sinking itself. Otherwise the board member might be ejected.
Any relationship, even a parasocial one, relies on communication.
If the other person isn't meeting your needs or is actively harming themselves through their actions, then you should tell them.
