I stopped playing Arena a long time ago, but I had a way easier time grinding as a total free to play user with a self-admittedly stupid, underoptimized UG merfolk tribal deck than the mono R aggro deck that won everything in paper Standard.
What we could retroactively call "Finana.dec" was basically an upgraded version of a starter deck everyone got, and I was getting matched with overconfident shitters and their non-meta decks, instead of cautious, experienced people with access to all the cards that knew what they were doing
