Ame's not doing too bad. DKC is one of my favorite games of all time, at some point my mom was watching me play it and wanted to give it a try too, so I started a competitive save file.
I cleared the game in one sitting the first day, in about 3 hours. My mom spent the next 2 weeks playing the game, at around 32 hours on her file she cleared the game. She didn't learn to run for about 15 hours of playtime, and even then only used it sparingly, as it made the game too slippery for her.

Give Ame time, not everyone is good at platformers, they require very different motor skills.
