The best strategy is to force people withhout VA skills not to play characters.
Good acting> Real self (if you are interesting)> shit acting> Real self (if you are boring)
Most people are shitty actors, shitty writers and shitty lorecrafters, therefore better results are achived when they in fact don't try at all.
Once the market is oversatured being cute just wont do so people who play characters tend to do better because real people are boring and also have boring lives and the only thing they talk about is whatever they ate that day.
The hobby is still currently in its infancy and the lore aspect is underutilized. The "plot" is manufactured artificially via
1- Inherent streamer menheraness
2- Company drama/ yabs
3- Literally made up rrats because vtubers are boring
One day this will not be necessary in the way celebrity gossip is not the fundamental part of movie watching. Might not happen anytime soon, but someday.
