I assume she wanted to play to her strengths. She wanted to show off that she can do art, she can make her own Live2D, she can make her own videos, and also I presume if she had to give up her old persona, that would mean saying goodbye to the few thousand or so people who were following "Hoshimachi Suisei". She owes her continued work as a vtuber to them and their support, so I feel like she doesn't want to let them down.
