There's two important distinctions to be made,
1) Reality TV and most media does everything in it's power to be viewed as "authentic". Vtubing, done properly, completely flaunts authenticity for the superior simulacrum of hyperreality. While both makes a demand of suspension of disbelief to engage with one is mere deception while the other hopes to elevate beyond the normal condition. This is perhaps Phase Connects strongest point of delivery wherein the fantastical claims and dynamics they support continue to reinforce the kayfabe and create a sound foundation through overlapping narratives and interactions. Reality TV makes you say "This shit is so fake" wherein good Vtubing makes you say "There's no way this is real" which is an important distinction to make.
2) Vtubing, done properly, is much closer to theater than reality TV, with the potential to actually interact with the talent, characters, and storyline. This level of interactivity and creative fluidity is wherein the engagement and continued support is generated. Phase Connects integrity of creating character defining moments and rolling with them, even more so due to the interplay of different talents reflecting upon one another, is what keeps their production so fresh overall. The strongest elements of Phase Connect currently (West Coast Dream Team and Lumi's Invaders ) are all being propelled forward on the commingling and resultant growth of character from the (perceivably) genuine interactions they share.

Aside: Getting very heavy Walrus from Alice in Wonderland vibes with the new Invaders being the Oysters and Lumi being the Walrus. Art an-nons make it happen....
