The general population came, saw what it was about, and left after a few months when the novelty wore off. Even more invested fans are slowly fading over time; maybe their oshi's content became stagnant (big problem in Hololive due to permissions shit), maybe they realized their oshi isnt much different from an e-thot (thanks Coco), or maybe they took their meds and realized she will never fuck them no matter how many SCs they send and escaped the sunken cost fallacy. The only way most YT vTubers (dont watch Twitch) can get respectable numbers these days is to play Minecraft, but pandering to zoomers who are watching for Minecraft and not the vTuber is a losing proposition.
