It's up to you. It opens up doors to more intricate kinds of music, and there are certain kinds of music you want to listen to less as it's built on the same old foundation. For example, you will notice creative twists with progression
in some songs, clever use of harmonization, a cool modulation/change of key here and there, or an understanding of crazy polyrhythms. To me, it's a plus as I can appreciate music more, but I still enjoy 'dumb' music.
