Yeah there is a deep connection because of how vtubing works. It depends on how you see the character/roommate division. If you don't see them being as distinct then you will see it as shipping real people. My perspective is that the vtuber's character is a separate idea from the roommate's self and while the roommate's life does play into it heavily, they are not one and the same thing. Eventually the vtubers will graduate, the roommates will move on in life. The idea of the character will remain, maybe some people will keep shipping it afterwards based on completely fictional ideas, and the ship content that has already been created will be crystalized as a fictional reinterpretation of real events. That's how I'd want things to turn out in the end.
