This is the closest thing I got but I believe Mel wasn't initially supposed to be part of Gen 1 which makes sense since she doesn't share the same "school girl" theme the other girls from her gen have.

Yes. Mel was never meant to be Gen 1. Gen 1 had the common theme of "schoolgirls" and all of them debuted within a 3-day window. Mel debuted almost a full month before them.

She wasn't originally part of gen 1, she was a non-gen like Roboco. When Chris got erased from existence, Mel was added to gen 1 to keep the 5 person dynamic. That's also why she debuted weeks before the rest of gen 1.
