Good news!
Managed to figure out some video editing basics that will allow me to mimic some of the more basic animations out of program, which should allow me to get quite a few of the scenes done at decent quality without the massive render times.
It's a bit limiting in terms of camera movements, but it'll do.

That three hour render finally finished, so I've slapped together a mockup with some syncing.
