ASMR is a massive buff and everyone knows it. If a vtuber doesn't want to play the metagame then that's their choice. Some people are just not made to "make it", whether intentionally or accidentally, some straight up don't care. There is a cap on the audience you can get by playing your own "off-meta" game and the grow rate will be nerfed, they also know it. For example, guess who is the second not-gen3 in terms of subs, despite not having streamed that much? Green fairy. What does she do? ASMR videos.
The viewer pool for ASMR live content is big enough that there are enough ASMR tourists to go around for everyone and prerecorded stuff still gets a lot of traction. It's probably the only almost guaranteed way to farm numbers.

On another note, overlapping doesn't matter for tourist, it only matters for dedicated Kawaii fans. Nene streaming doesn't impact on the other girls because they have very different casual audiences, and it's those casuals who make up most of the NOOMBERS. They don't carry over from one vtuber to another, hell, Nene own casual fans (ASMR tourists) don't watch her regular streams because she gets up to 1k ccv during proper live ASMR, gaming ASMRs get 1/3 of that, normal streams are the lowest.
