when Top Gun comes up, would any of you prefer the 4K Remaster or the older HD master? 4K Remaster has less DNR/more grain, which won't be noticeable at the bitrate needed for movie night, and suffers from "piss yellow tint"-itis + blown out highlights. the old master is a bit washed out, digitally sharpened, but the colors are less ridiculous.

Movie Night returns today after a divegrass related hiatus.

No, you're right. I wouldn't do it for something that's already in English but for something in Japanese I would absolutely hard-sub it. They're already re-encoded for streaming, it's just one extra line in my script and it's done. I am actually going to test that for Sanjuro. That way I don't have to fuck with OCR either, I can just hard-sub the original image based subtitles from the Blu-Ray.

The movies start at the same time, every week. 4 PM server time. This week, that means 20:00 UTC, after that it will mean 19:00 UTC. They play a second time @~ 8 PM too, which was the original time we used.

It looks like "The Raid" US - The Raid: Redemption is currently in the lead for this week's movie. Battle Royale will be next week.
