There's still room in the western audience for female vtubers. They just have to be marketed well or put in the effort/resources to break Hololive/VShojo's duopoly. No one gave a shit about Nijisanji before Lazulight debuted so it's expected they'd start at a lower point. Over the last year the girls have been able to grow their channels and attract quite a lot of people for their big streams. Yesterday Obsydia anniversary almost reached 20k viewers, something the girls had never been close to achieving before. Even Lazulight's never got anywhere close to that, so their reach is actually way bigger than it was even 2 months ago.

Management absolutely refuses to invest in them any more now that they have Luxiem unfortunately, so they'll have to struggle for every bit of growth. NijiEN girls are firmly competing with VShojo in viewership and HoloEN in superchats, but they don't have the same kind of financial support to take advantage of it. HoloEN and VShojo have really impressive selections of merch and promotions while Nijis just kinda get scraps. For Hololive's 1 year anniversary they had two different sets of plushies and multiple nendoroids. For VShojo they released figures and nendos and dakis of Nyanners and a few others and have very regular appearances at large cons and events or show up in Twitch events with huge streamers like Asmongold to grow their audience. Even if you don't like VShojo or Hololive if you're at all familiar with anime and livestreamers you know who they are and what their content is like.

Meanwhile NijiEN almost feels like they're locked into a corner of ultra-weeb fans who are dedicated to watching purely for their personalities. There's almost no overlap or outreach to new audiences or growing the "Nijisanji brand" in the west. On that front I think the only thing that could help the girls without management would be collabing with 2view corpos to build a more unified vtuber community on YT and get their names out there. They really haven't been doing that enough ever since Ethyria debuted, it's weird. They don't even collab with Pikamee anymore. Maybe also streaming more often on Twitch and taking advantage of its social features like raids or holding charity events on there. I know Pomu wanted to hold a charity event stream, and I think those kinds of streams are way more successful on Twitch and can generate a lot of eyes on your channel.
