In my experience managers are the most replaceable part of any operation. There's always an equally incompetent replacement to be found with minimal effort and replacing them causes little disruption so long as they don't come in trying to cause problems.
But you start replacing the actual workers? That's when workplaces collapse, skillsets are lost and projects have to be abandoned.

Jap programmers come in two varieties:

The latter are absurdly rare. But because Japan places little value on programming and software development they get treated like shit. So they wind up either as hobbyists, making videogames, killing themselves or leaving the country.

So Japanese companies wind up having to incrementally develop over time to get a serviceable product. Takes ages.
And when they don't have time for that they have to hire foreigners which they absolutely hate doing because of how much we bill them for something they consider to be low class work.

Man that elevator talk gave me some PTSD where I thought I was stuck in an elevator when in reality the door just didn't open for some reason. Spent the rest of my weekend in that Hotel using the stairs.
