I don't think we have such a cult because after the war, everyone agreed to destroy all records of that time. I also did not really think about what exactly the gate does. I only had the idea of a big and long staircase going around the pillar up, but actually there is a cargo lift hidden that people from the temple use and the stairs are just for visitors or to play pranks on new apprentices since it seems mystical and important to take the steps up the gate.
