There are lots of different types of "girlfriend experience" and when it's done right people won't even realize they got sucked in into this type of entertainment.

Members of the audience that GENUINELY believe they are in a relationship with their oshi, one that demands exclusivity and chastity is very small.
It doesn't even make sense, how can it be exclusive if you are sharing her with all ofher gachis and general fanbase? It takes a very particular mind to engage in such double think and it is a fraction of the audience.

But there is a HUGE segment of the audience that is into vtubers EXACTLY because it provides some escape from the dull edge of reality.

That would be someone they'll come home to (after a long day of work), a presence that materializes when they turn the stream on and listen to the cute anime girl voice doing whatever (gaming, singing, talking) while interacting with the audience and, if he's luck, even with his solitary self.

This segment of the audience would drop the streamer for bringing up personal relationships all the same but for a different reason: the one thing this segment wants the LEAST is for the person behind the avatar to break the immersion and bring the exacy type of grown up problems they're watching her to escape from.

It wouldn't even need to be a boyfriend, Shion and Ame may have bled audience by bringing up their depression and Haachama, her difficulty to adapt to her new life in Japan.

This segment of the audience don't want a chaste woman, they don't want is a RL woman at all leaking into the character they enjoy watching and interacting with to escape the boredom
