i could be wrong because im not super lore familiar, but I don’t think the Flood assimilates technology too much. In the games, the Flood will shoot at you with guns, but that’s because the thing they infected at the time was holding a gun in that moment, not because the Flood decided to visit the armory and stash up on guns.
Also, the lore of Alien also suggests (at least in the comics), that the Xenomorphs operate with something similar to a hive mind too. Except instead of it being a hive mind, they’re all telepathically controlled by their queen.

I always played this game in the most boring way possible, by just grinding for a full in-game year until I had a surplus of everything from food to wagon parts and then making the trip in luxury after winter had passed
