I love the X series and as someone who is more invested thought they were an excellent way to continue the series.
That said Megaman on NES is the perfect introduction to the gameplay of Megaman and has a really great pick up and play feel to it.
Its very fun despite the simplicity of the 2 button control scheme, that's why they keep going back to it (powered up/9/10).
Also original Megaman's character designs are way more iconic than the cluttered mess that is the X series.
