The March sumo honbasho in Osaka for 2024 has begun!

For the first time in a year, yokozuna Terunofuji, the winner of the previous basho, will be competing in back-to-back basho. If he can keep the momentum going and stay healthy, he's easily the favorite to win. There's also the newly promoted ozeki Kotonowaka, who narrowly lost to the yokozuna in a playoff for the yusho, and will be looking to cement his status as a top contender and follow in the footsteps of his grandfather (the late yokozuna Kotozakura). Ozeki Kirishima is another force to be reckoned with, having only been two wins off the pace in the previous basho, and has recently reunited with the former yokozuna Kakuryu (who's responsible for much of Kirishima's leveling up in his game).

A hot prospect to be on the watchout for is Takerufuji. He will be making his makuuchi debut after a stellar performance in the juryo division, winning the juryo yusho in his first appearance in the division and locking in his promotion to the top division.

The Sumo Kyushu Basho has begun for 2023. Ozeki Takakeisho, who won the previous basho, is looking to win the consecutive basho that has eluded him. With 2 consecutive basho under his belt, his promotion to the sport's highest rank of yokozuna is virtually guaranteed. However, the other 2 ozeki Kirishima and Hoshoryu are healthy and have shaken off the promotion jitters. They could easily throw a wrench in Takakeisho's plans. There are also 4 debutantes in the top division (Tohakuryu, Roga, Kitanowaka, and Churanoumi) who are eager to make a splash in the rankings.

The Sumo Aki Basho 2023 is underway.

Yokozuna Terunofuji and star prospect Hakuoho (who was the runner-up in the previous basho in his debut at makuuchi) are out with injuries. However, the ozekis are carrying the torch for the sanyaku in September. Newly promoted ozeki Hoshoryu won the last basho and will be looking to cement his position. Ozeki Takakeisho has returned after sitting out the last basho and seems to be in top condition. Ozeki Kirishima, though diagnosed with a rib injury and missing 3 days of the last basho, put out a gutsy effort and was 2 wins shy of a winning record. Now that he's healthy again, he is easily a contender for the yusho.

The Sumo Nagoya Basho 2023 begins today.

Yokozuna Terunofuji won the previous tournament and looks to be back in top form. Kiribiyama, now Kirishima, has been promoted to ozeki and will be looking to prove that he deserves his promotion. 3 sekiwake (Daeisho, Wakamotoharu, and Hoshoryu) are eligible for promotion to ozeki with a good score this tournament, so look for them to make a statement as well. We also have mega prospect Hakuoho making his top division debut. Can he take the world by storm again?

The Sumo Natsu Basho 2023 begins today.

Yokozuna Terunofuji is set to return to action after missing the past few tournaments due to injury. If he's completely healthy, he's the obvious favorite to win. We also have former ozeki Asanoyama returning to the top division and looking to make a statement. Sekiwake Kiribiyama and Daiesho are both eligible for promotion with a good score this tournament, so look for them to come out guns ablazin' as well.
