prior to this summer she used to talk about missing home and thinking her parents hated her. now she's talking about both of them warmly. Obviously she was kicked out of the house under less then ideal circumstances. I know she used to smoke weed (still might) and drank a bit. I can imagine having an adult daughter going no where fast playing games and streaming on the internet while high or drunk would put a strain in the relationship.

1) her roomate was famous on the tube long before gura's debut, she knows internet and meme culture; there is a reason she's called a meme queen around here. this was and probably still is here main social media site. Her roommate is a creature raised on /a/ and likely /b/ as well.

2) her roomate has been youtubing since she was in 9th grade. that first channel was moderately successful as well, she still has dedicated fans for it. This is a girl who knows how to make content people will watch and how youtube works.

3) her roomate's knowledge of memes and meme culture in hand Gura's launch was perfect. Not only did she amuse people with her memes, not only was her design cute, but then she sang. And man did she blow the doors off everyone's minds. It was the contrast. here was this adorible little meme girl, who can sing like a professional singer. it snagged everyone's attention.

4) she appeals to teens and likely due to the music choices in those first streams, their parents too. this is a girl who found a way to get parental approval for kids shrimping.

5) she's rather entertaining, obviously she grew up watching pewdiepie and learned how streaming games works. her roomates dabbling in it on twitch only cemented in her mind what worked and what didn't before her youtube debut.

6) the beerbug trapped everyone inside watching the internet for entertainment in 2020; gura was entertainment kids and parents could and did watch together. Her lewd sense of humor just veiled enough as to be funny to the older audiences without being lewd to the kids hearing them (much like a Disney movie)

7) she loves to sing Disney princess songs. you can't tell me this isn't knowing your audience.

8) her lewd/off color meme sense of humor is so sharp and on point it amuses older audiences immensely; preventing her from being a kids channel entirely. yes she has a young audience but she also has an adult audience. this is a line no one else in hololive has really managed to do, except for maybe korone and pekora (both of whom try to keep their content very seiso; while entertaining to all age groups, still i suspect both of their audiences are still older then guras... korone plays boomer games, and pekora is a bit... strange for kids)

9) she loves her audience, something that comes through loud and clear; this is audience interaction a lot of talents struggle to manage.

10) she's never mean. I don't know how she manages to do this, but listen to her content again. she can't even poke fun at people i suppose a lot of people poke fun at. the meanest she'll get is calling someone "stupid" and that's typically directed at a game character not someone else. Yet she manages to be playful with the membershrimp and bit back without being mean about it. Its hard to explain how nice it is to listen to someone's content who's not raging at the world or someone else all the time. I suspect this is in part why vtubers in general have taken off, but still it's a big reason why she's fun to watch

11) I suspect she has a sign hanging up where she can see it, that reads something like "always leave them smiling", gura seems to make it her goal to make her chat HAPPY, and to leave them feeling HAPPY. no matter what might be going on, how nervous she feels how ill she might be, she does her best to make the audience feel happy, and that is something I think reaches through the internet to everyone who watches her.

Hell take those outliers out of this, if you had told Yagoo a year ago that he'd have a dozen holos over 1mil subs and every single member of the English branch over 1mil he'd of been jumping out of his chair ecstatic. a year ago he didn't have a single holo over 1mil. I mean though Ina and Kiara lag behind the rest of the class they're both doing obscenely well too. as are Marine, Coco and a number of other girls.

It's easy to play a numbers game with certain girls, and I'm sure Kiara is fuming at being last to 1mil out of the en branch, (I don't particularly like her), But her numbers are still outrageously good, and probably well beyond anyone's expectations when everyone debuted in September. there are a lot of holos who should be ecstatic right now (yes even Kiara).

and looking at those inflated numbers you can't deny the trickledown effect gura has on the rest of the members of hololive. she's basically serving as the gateway for a shit ton of new subs for a lot of those girls.

Gura's real money comes from her channel memberships. according to the best estimates she has anywhere from a min of 20k paying members up to 200k paying members. I think the real number is likely between 40-80k. At 40k paying members (assuming they're paying the min $5 membership) she's pulling in a min of $200k/mo in membership $$ alone (of course if her number of members is 80k, that number doubles to $400k/mo)

If you want to know why gura does so much members only content, content that often isn't even archived and she doesn't even make a dime of ad revenue for which doesn't apply to her monthly stats, this is it. It also matches up with why she barely pays attention to her superchats. I mean it's good money (even her 10k made during the character design revieal, worked out to 4k pocket change for her after youtube and cover's cuts, not bad for 55minutes of work) but it's a drop in the bucket compared to what she's probably making through her memberships.

hell, if you consider how ad money and monthly viewers is such a huge chunk for other vtubers, and yet gura seems to care little about posting monetized content, and you'll realize she's raking it in from those memberships.

not sure how to type this without sounding weird, but she has an insanely nostalgic vibe for me. The phrases, things she talks about, and her personality could be a copy of my mother (who died when i was like 10). It's been 30+ years since she passed away, she even likes to sing the same type of songs.

Her voice of course is completely different, and i never was one to believe in reincarnation, but she must have been raised in a very similar environment to the one my mother grew up in to develop so many convergent interests, that weird sense of humor and strange personality.

I shrimp for her because she just puts a smile on my face. It's an odd experience to tell you the truth. 30 years later to hear sayings/phrases and topics you FORGOT your mother used to say/talk about coming out of the mouth of someone else. just surreal.
