depends entirely on the coin. Imagine Kanatan being the perfect play over night for one day only, nobody would go in harder than 10-20 coins with how low the volume is. Rushia is the other extreme where you can safely buy 100s, she'd have to jump through extreme hoops to even go high enough that selling is viable at all, and even then the window is fucking huge because by now every transaction changes her value by a mere 53 cents.
The optimal play in a price inflation economy by definition is to have as little liquid as possible because a dollar stays a dollar, but a dollar in a coin rises and falls with it. The more dollar you have at the beginning of a trading week (which I'll arbitrarily declare to be divvies time without that ever being established) the more you'd have to diversify, because even if the optimal play would've been to pour 1-2 million into Rushia, you get more bang for your bucks if you buy 3-5 coins of similar caliber in the discount window instead of waiting for that one good coin to come in.

Option 1 would be absolute carnage. You just need one Yacht-club member to totally fuck everyone else who sniffed a trade over and lock them out of it, and we just do not have enough options for plays at any given time for that to be fun enough for everyone.
I mean, this is just my gut speaking, but the fun is in being secretive about good plays, maybe teasing in the thread to get other anons to jump in, all of that would be possible if we go with option two. Option one would be let's say yfp going all in and the price is already shite at that point "because it's the optimal play" (well, it IS) to buy 500 Rushia right now.
Also, just to keep in mind, if we close in on option 1 it would be theoretically possible to clobber together a bot and make it do HFT, however successful, flooding the server with split-second queries resulting in the site instantly crashing and burning.
