The most common 'abbreviating practice' I know of is using only the first letter of the romanized kana of their names.
For example:
ほ(Ho)し(Shi)か(Ka)わ(Wa)さ(Sa)ら(Ra) = HSKWSR
Take note that some artists sometimes don't use the full name, or censor one of the letters with a circle.
Second most common I know of is simply the name of the chuuba in kana and/or kanji but at least one character is censored with a circle or x
