It's because both options have no balance. When you're a NEET you eventually start getting depressed because you lack any meaning or usefulness in your life. But when you work, it's usually more hours than what is ideal and your lack of free time is what makes you depressed. Life just sucks unless you find a job that you like and doesn't completely suck away your soul and free time.
