To be honest a lot of its design’s ultimately based around it being le quiet gun, it’s just that suppressed revolvers are pretty rare due to how it functions so a stealth revolver is inherently cooler (also because revolvers are inherently cooler)
Many of the details are based on OTs-38, a relatively rare gun from Russia. Its silence mostly comes from the unique ammunition design and it’s also used by the earlier PSS silent pistol. Apparently the same design’s also used by S&W’s Quiet Special Purpose Revolver (but it’s more like shotgun shells than pistol bullet) for tunnel-clearing purposes. The integral laser sight’s from OTs-38 while some models of Bamak having a rail system’s based on RSh-12, a non-silent “assault revolver” that fires sniper rounds and make use of the bottom-chamber barrel to make recoil more bearable. The bit about removable cylinder’s from an experimental design commonly known as “air marshal revolver” which is ironic because it was commissioned by Eastern for its pilots so that they don’t have to have air marshals on board (they eventually relented). The idea’s that the pilots would carry the gun and the cylinder separately and only put them together on-board, but here I use it for quick reload without having to take the spent cartridges out (more on that below)
These characteristics also happen to be useful in space ships as their corridors are probably cramped like tunnels but worsened by them likely being metallic. The issue with ejected casing in microgravity’s something I found on Atomic Rockets while doing my laser gun rep, and it also suggests using revolvers to mitigate that issue. The only part that I made up myself’s the lack of muzzle flash allowing it to be used when the air’s flammable or explosive (but Atomic Rockets probably have that mentioned somewhere anyway)
It’s meant to be the preferred weapon of the possum girl from the story but I can’t find a way to justify her specialist weapon present in the story, as the only way it would be on an enemy ship’s if she brought it on board, but then she would likely still had it on her and have used it already
