FGO is definitely something one can enjoy but unless you've been playing from Day 1 playing catch-up is understandably daunting and unless you're a diehard Nasu fan.

Yeah, I don't think that's a particularly uncommon opinion. Extella Link was a straight upgrade in terms of gameplay and polish with how the models over the original game, but the story feels like an interlude rather than an actual sequel, plus there it presumes a lot of buy-in that the people playing them were Fate fans to begin with, let alone Extra fans when that game barely sold on the PSP in the west.

I think Extra Record will be a bit more forgiving to newcomers since it should at least take place at the start of the Extraverse stuff so there would be less presumption that people have to read up on an Nasuverse encyclopedia before getting into the game.

Extella had a decent enough story, but I think we can all agree the models looked like hot ass for the most part and the gameplay was pretty bland.

They fixed a lot of the issues like actually making the gameplay fun for Link at the sacrifice of it feeling more like a spinoff in itself vs. an actual story sequel.

I'll be real with you: the Extella games are not good stream material.

First one has a decent-ish story but the pacing is admittedly a slog and the gameplay and graphics are super rough.
2nd is better gameplay and graphic-wise but story feels like a side story rather than actual sequel material.

Both games require some level of Extra backstory knowledge which most TM fans nowadays either haven't interacted with the game in years or are FGO/anime secondaries.
