So basically, freezing a wave is where you want the minion wave to be just outside of tower range and at a point where it can replenish itself with a new set of minions every 30 seconds. The main goal of "freezing" or holding the wave in this way is to control the tempo of your lane, as this can lead into a gank from your jungler, a creep score lead (shortened to CS, the amount of minions you've killed) and or controlling how safe you are in your lane. Depending on the champion and lane you play, it always will depend on one champion to control how the lane state will be as all the variables in the game equate to a resource at the end of it. Let's take the bottom lane for example. Freezing a wave against a poke duo, an example would be Caitlyn and Lux, would be difficult as they can force you off the minion wave very easily with their abilities and Caitlyn's attack range being the highest base range of any champion in game. It is much easier for this duo to control said lane and freezing would be difficult for most players. In this case, it is better to try to freeze and "slow push" the wave in order to force your enemies to make a mistake, either through a gank or outplays from you and your support.
