Oh, that's a fun one, Lucub.
Think of a simple organization. Say, a decently upscale restaurant. This restaurant makes a mean hamburger steak, despite the guy who came up with it having long since retired.
Why? Because he trained other guys in how to do it, and now *collectively* the restaurant as an entity knows each step on how to make it.

This is called "Organizational learning".
Knowledge builds on knowledge. People work together and learn together.
Eventually one organization knows collectively more than another, drawing in more and more people that create more and more refined processes.

This is the case with Taiwan and computer chips.
Taiwan, as an entity knows how to create computer chips better than anyone else in the world.
This has lead to very expensive facilities becoming more and more concentrated there.

One egg. One very large and fancy basket.
The Taiwanese are not about to allow China's tech advantage to get out of control should they be conquered.

-China invades
-The facilities burn
-The smart people leave to the four corners of the world
-Computer technology crashes against a wall worldwide

It would, quite frankly, flash-freeze then reverse human progress by about 50 - 95 years.
