I remember doing that back in school science class! From what I can recall it works better if the container’s more water-resistant (obviously) so maybe some kinda waxy leaves that don’t melt (?) even during long boiling? Or maybe the flavor seeping from the leaves into the water when it’s boiled is itself desirable?
