An Orca's Awakening

“And this is the brains of our organization. Chloe, meet Koyori.”

“Oh Lui-nee, you actually brought me a real live orca! I know I’ve been asking for new subjects but you really outdid yourself.” Koyori exclaims, checking over the newcomer who was garbed in torn rags that barely concealed her figure.

“She’s not a subject, she’s our newest member.” Lui corrects her while placing an arm over the girl’s shoulder when she shudders away from the coyote’s prodding. “Pending your approval of course. Try not to get carried away please.”

The orca lets the strange girl in a lab coat take her by the arm and whisks her away with an excited, but disturbing giggle. She had only ever known servitude, and by some miracle, an accident freed her. The first person to greet her at the start of her new life was a kind, gentle faced woman. She offered her a choice, the first she had ever been given; come with her and help create a world where she would never be in binds again, or walk away.

The room she was pulled into was like nothing she had ever seen before; strange colored lights blip along metal window boxes that look to be part of the far wall itself, white tables that hold glasses of all shapes and sizes that pop out with curiously colored mixtures, and other strange devices.

“Hello? Orca? Are you still in there?” Koyori breaks her out of the fleeting stupor.

“Huh? Y-Yes.”

“Wonderful. Can’t do a proper examination if you’re already too broken to speak.” The coyote chirps.

Koyori sits down on a mobile stool, and pats the plain chair in front of her.

“Let’s begin. What would you say your pain threshold is?”

“I was a slave, so I was beaten nearly every day.”

“So pretty high? Good. I’ve read about the resilience of orcas. They say your kind are tougher than iron, but what else are you capable of?”

“How should I know?” Chloe shrugs.

“Then we’ll learn together.” Koyori’s fangs glisten. “Let’s continue. Stand and take off your clothes.”

Chloe sighed, but did what she was told. It was first nature.

Malnourished
Strong frame
Powerful lungs
Well endowed

After the initial assessment, came the experiments.

Incisions along her stomach to examine her blood, blue flame held over her skin until it discolored, pulses of electricity forced through her system by a taser. Chloe begged her to stop but to no avail. All in the name of science Koyori would say, but the look of manic delight on her face told a very different story.

“As I hoped, an orca demi-human is a prime specimen.” Koyori jots down a few more findings and hums a thinking tune. “Just one more thing before we move on.” She hands Chloe a vial filled with a deep purple liquid. “Drink.”

She chugged the entire vial. As soon as the thick substance slithered past her throat, she felt a violent urge to vomit. She fell forward, her palms and feet burned against the cold floor. All her wounds from today’s ordeal pulsed, and she felt as though her insides were being rearranged. Then as quickly as it came, the anguish left in a hot flash, she stared at her own reflection in the puddle of sweat that lay underneath her. She also noticed something harrowing, all her wounds and burns, they were all gone.

Koyori nods and writes on her pad. “Excellent. How would you say you feel right now”

“Like I want to die.”

“But you won’t~ which is good. I still have some refinement to do in my calculations. Now go wash up.”

“Wha? I’m not done? After all that?”

“Of course not. I have a good idea of your physiology, but I need to assess if you can actually be of use to us.”

“But Lui said-”

“Lui wants results, and you’re going to help me deliver. My other subjects are too fragile, but you can be my greatest guinea orca, and one of our greatest weapons.”

Over the week Chloe was ordered to ingest strange chemicals that rattled her from the inside, fight strange machines and even murder mutated beasts. Any defiance was met with harsh punishment, and all she could do was follow orders, like always. The worst part was, she was beginning to enjoy the violence, the feeling of bone snapping under her foot, it felt relieving. The realization was sickening.

As Chloe sat in her room contemplating her chosen fate, Lui paid her a visit.

“Good evening, Chloe.” She wears a bright smile. “I have some good news.”

The girl is handed a neatly folded stack of black and plaid clothing, with a white eyed mask resting on the top.

“My darkness would officially like to welcome you to HoloX. I know the past week hasn’t been easy, but it is all so that the world may be repainted. No one should have to live in chains simply for being born like you did. By helping us, you’ll always be free. Will you join us? Will you join me?”

Without a word she grabbed the mask. “For my darkness.”

Wouldn't either of them just rob me at gun/knife point instead?

Look how dirty this orca is. Imagine the smell! Stinky stinky! Time for some bath with soap!
