You need plenty of them for the hardest synthesis to get in the game, but you can get a liquid metal slime for free once you reach 100 monsters synthesized(she's at 68) and if invested properly in HPs and Wisdom points, it can be a powerful monster in itself (B rank, arguably better than some S rank and all Rank solely due to its high Defense, Wisdom and agility points).

Picrel is the only way to get Dr Snapped the legit way. 200+ hours put for me each time I wanted to get him.
Then again he's not necessarily the strongest, only his native skill is, and there are plenty other skills in the game which are arguably stronger than that.
