A demonstration of how fucked up the vtubing industry is. Especially hololive.

In Hololive, the agency has direct personal control over all their talents. They can manage their affairs, control what they say and do. This is far different from the Hollywood movie industry, in which talents are under contract, and can move freely between studios and agencies, rather than being under the direct control of a studio. The clearest example of this: in Hololive the manager is the boss of the talents. In Hollywood the talents are the boss of their manager.

This is sort of an upside-down relationship in the vtubing industry, which only serves the benefit of major corporations like hololive, and does not benefit the consumer. In a world where these agencies did not exist, vtubers could form friendships with whoever they want, stream with whoever they want, do whatever types of streams they wanted. This type of free-environment used to exist in the vtubing world, before the major corporations started buying up all the talents and centralizing them under themselves. They have basically claimed a monopoly on talents. If you want to collab with Pekora, the only way to do so is to get accepted into hololive. They have a monopoly on Pekora now.

They have basically taken this free-range world of vtubers, centralized it under themselves, and then erected barriers to monopolize them, while extracting a tax on their earnings.

This only works because the fans are such tribalists and numberfags that will rally around a brand name or symbol.

How come the corporate vtubing industry removes any freedom from the talents?
