But more than that why are all vtuber logos so... samey?

Yeah that's kinda the problem I'm having. I'm looking at these logos and they all look so similar I can't really tell who's a good designer and who's not. Pic related is a different artist that's a lot cheaper. $10 for basic $35 for premium.
