I actually made this thread on a whim, just for fun, but after seeing how much that Ayame poster tries to desperately protect his oshi (not even KFPs are this desperate) and act all sweaty over the place, now i just have the urge to make a new one cause

I have always thought he is an unlikeable ass. But if I have to articulate the reason: it is because I do not sense in him any respect.

It is easier to explain it by contrasting him with people I don't personally mind. For instance, Kakage-sensei. When he appeared on Nabi's stream yesterday, for instance, Kakage did a quick apology for being a guy, and throughout the stream demonstrated he understood the idol / vtuber culture, acted maturely, and did nothing untoward. There is respect shown, and respect is therefore given. I don't mind him collabing with vtubers and showing his art. I am sure some others will disagree, and that's fine, but it's my personal opinion.

Connor is the exact opposite. He made derogatory remarks about hololive and its fans being crazy idol fans he would not touch (search for "connor hololive fandom" on youtube). And absolutely asinine remarks like "what's up with people not wanting to admit there's a person behind the character", which would require a longer post on vtuber culture to dissect. But in short, he has zero respect or understanding for idol/vtuber culture or its fans. It is the equivalent of some non-anime watchers calling anime fans pedophiles, i.e. derogatory misconceptions. Add in the smug memes about him having a "harem" of vtubers, "quirky" interactions with vtuber girls, and it becomes even more apparent that there can be no understanding between us. Some last nuance: not all vtubers subscribe to idol-like culture conventions, and that's fine, there is a diversity of opinions, as long you don't spread derogatory misconceptions about it.

I didn't plan on posting tonight, but I feel a few people are being serious instead of trolling, so I will just say a few things:

1) There is a spectrum between Sora level of seiso and Vshojo level of vulgarity, and different people have different limits. Any foray into vshojo vulgarity that you find off-putting, will be cheered for by another teamate, and perhaps vice versa, so Amelia will never know to adjust her behavior based on chat reactions alone. Personally, I liked Amelia the most at her debut, when she had the role of a smart detective and competent FPS gamer. Even the fake British accent warmed my heart. She felt different and fresh, but it didn't last long, which brings me to my next point.

2) Be prepared to branch out to other vtubers. Even if Ame regresses to another twitch streamer with pussy and dick jokes, I won't really lose sleep over it. Korone for instance plays retro games that I am curious about and is generally a cinnamon roll. Cousin Uto on the other hand is ironically a better FPS gamer, singer and doesn't rely on any vulgar jokes to create her own humor. Even small indies like Nina Saotome offer better gameplay (like how she smashed through Dark Souls with well-practiced ease), astonishing English singing that puts all holos to shame, and generally a chill atmosphere. Of course, your tastes may differ, but I'm sure that with so many out there, you can find other vtubers that fit your desire.

That said, from a distance, I can still appreciate how Amelia constantly thinks about ways to innovate with her streams (outfit reveal, VR etc.). I am just not dependent on her fitting my own criteria anymore, because let's face it, it's easier to watch other people than to wait for vtubers to change. I don't know if I can call myself a teamate anymore, but the label doesn't mean much to me anyhow. Find happiness, instead of worrying about things you can't change.

But just think about it. I started looking up numbers myself. How many applied for the audition, which was opened until 29 January 2021? By the time of gen 5 audition (start of 2020), the ratio was 1:1200 (provided by Subaru) so at least 6000 applied for gen 5. That was before the big pandemic boom. When vsinger audition happened, we were long past that. HoloEN awakened the global market, and Gura blew the lid open with nearly 2 million subscribers, becoming the biggest hololive and 2nd only to Kizuna Ai. So not only the number of applicants increased, but also their quality.

Yet, Irys was literally the first choice, beating the other thousands that applied. When we look at the one on top, we forget the 9999 that failed, not knowing how hard it was. That's literally a bigger achievement than anything most vtubers can boast of in their lifetime. The reward for winning the hunger games is that she now has the cushiest job in the industry with the whole rabbit hole's attention. And she is probably the only holo to debut with her own animation MV ready. They are betting a lot on her.

Well more than 50% Hololive members provide GFE, act friendly and intimate with their fans, and never talk about the distance needed for both them and the fans to keep, so most Holofags both EN and JP, act like they have a right to influence and be part of whatever their oshis is doing (hence the influx of gachikois) and end up sperging out whenthings dont go the way they want (funnily enough having Antis who were ex-fans is way worse than just regular Antis, because their love for the chuubas turns into massive hatred)

If anything more chuubas should start doing the same as him, and show the distance and position needed for both them and their fans to stand on.

Really. That's not how I read it. The fact is that they used to be close. Very close. Then it all stopped suddenly. You can't call that a slow drift.

Of course they are still colleagues, and partners in songs etc. so they can't have a bitter fight in public. But something got in between them. Did it all stop after the IRL sleepover or is my memory faulty? I know it's bad to speculate but it's been long enough that anyone would become curious about it.

The investors who don't even give a shit about anime or vtubers are likely to take control and place their demands. And like with Bethesda, Blizzard, EA etc. you one day wake up and see bean counters ruin your hobby. Hololive will still be around and popular like Blizzard, but the brand is tainted and disrespected.

Coco was right to bow out before the shit hit the air mover. In 5 years (500 years in holo time), she is gonna be sitting nicely and welcome all the ex-holos who want to leave.
