No biopunk, sorry dude. Simple machines etc make sense, but engines and their ilk are out. Could certainly achieve similar things with biological "engines" (lungs or hearts for pumps, joint and muscles for leverage etc), but these things would have to be forcefully grown by Matres, and while technically possible, are inherently "unnatural" to the normal course of the growth of the forests. They would only be done if there was a great need.
In the last world I was discussing with some anons how /uuu/ would make a lighthouse using only animals or plants. Was fun stuff.

We for sure have animal saplings. Saplification can take many different forms, though plant ones are more common, animal mutations are far from unheard of. We've had everything from crab people (even though I hate the look, some anons here convinced me to put them in) to centaurs.
