It's not entirely their fault, though. It's because of cultural differences, and it's not like anyone in the 3rd world knows about idol culture, either.
It's gonna be a hell of a hurdle to import that kind of culture with a language barriers nobody seems to be able to cross yet. Even more when our normal humour looks like this.

We'll be using animated avatars synched to our voices, but you're right. I don't think labeling ourselves as vtubers will make us or them any favours.
It would be wild to hear any vtuber talking about incidents like this one, for example.
