It varies on the vtuber, but most of the time it makes a difference.
Vtubing properly takes quite a lot of time and effort, it's closely tied to your personal life, it's not like another job you tune in, mindlessly do your tasks and then leave and forget about it. Often it's a big part of your life.
Vtubing is also attention being given and received. If you have a special other, it directly impacts the time and attention the vtuber will have available, and not just a little, thus deteriorating the experience. Vtubing is also not just a character completely separated from the person, in fact most vtubers are really themselves with some seasoning on top. Vtubers who get most of their attention and interaction with their audience obviously feel much closer and easier to feel invested with. See, Polka, or Flare, for well known ones.

But it also depends on the style of the vtuber, the ones like Rushia, Lamy etc. who clearly play into a more intimate experience, a boyfriend would directly affect that. When you spend hours talking about your day and your life, having to constantly think to not mention that one person dearest to you that is constantly here, it's just a huge burden, and any day you could slip up (for example https://streamable.com/f6foap))

Some vtubers focused on a specific performance, like say Korone or AZKI, it doesn't matter as much, not every vtuber goes for this close interaction. But a lot do, and for those, it's obviously better not to be in a relationship.
