depends on what the series is going for. subtext can be good when romance is not the focus (see most idol anime or really anything that is not itself a romance narrative but still gets a lot of ships), but if the romance is even a tertiary focus limiting it to subtext is just cowardice (see g witch or anything that dabbles in romance but is too afraid to go all the way). imo full on graphic sex has a time and a place though i do concede that place does not have to be limited to porn.
t. don't really engage with fanfiction or fandom in general and usually prefer to stick to source material

they were both good imo. the first one was more story focused and had this really neat melancholic tinge to it that stood in contrast to the otherwise really bright and upbeat tone perfectly reflecting the moods of that whole flashback arc, whereas the second one was just really fucking cool and had this "shit's going down" vibe that worked because the whole shibuya incident arc was nothing but shit going down, though i'll concede that the second op was relatively lacking in meaning compared to the first one

I also have hundreds of pics dowloaded from twitter and danbooru, it's just that a lot of them are not blueboard friendly. I usually just determine whether the image I want is old or recent and jump to the start/end of the default 4chan filenames by pressing 1 or A respectively and going from there trying to remember if Pic A came before or after Pic B. The booru filenames are organized by character by default, and I can use the same 4chan filename trick for twitter images since older files start with F and newer ones start with G

On a slightly broader point this also speaks to how I kinda disagree the the philosophy that subtitles should be absolutely seamless and immersive/relatable because imo half the fun in engaging with foreign media is learning about that foreign culture. You lose that when your intent is for the EN audience to immediately comprehend JP cultural references they don't know as seamlessly as an EN cultural reference they already know. I'd rather just learn the JP reference at the expense of the fourth wall for a little bit than to have that culture sanded off.

My brain is thoroughly cooked by regular dojinshi and hanime intake. I feel nothing from 3D, the 2D is just too good.

they are good it's just there's really no point to them in the modern day outside of a fun novelty for pre-existing fans. as an entry point into the franchise they're fine, but there's no real reason to choose them over the full series if you wanna go release order or any of the spinoffs if you wanna start by picking what looks cool. if time investment is a concern what is even the point in bothering to get into a 45 year old franchise in the first place?

I don't get why people liked the demons arc so much the demons fucking sucked as antagonists they had no motivation other than the author going "they're just like that because they're demons bro" which can be fine I love the narrative the newer Doom games brought on but it works in Doom because Doom is not trying to be anything even close to grounded and empathetic whereas so much of what makes Frieren good is how it takes such a grounded and empathetic perspective. I'm not necessarily saying the demons should have been redeemed, that itself is enough of a cliche, but they were just glorified JRPG random encounter mobs and those do not make for compelling antagonists. The most interesting thing about the demons was that they knew who Frieren was and did the sick ass 'Sousou no Frieren" namedrop.
Frieren herself didn't learn shit or grow as a character in that arc and fantasy anime where the infallible protagonist gets proven right at every opportunity are dime a dozen with isekai being as prominent as it is. Fern and Stark got to develop a bit of independence and their scenes were the best part of that arc but that's really all it had going for itself narratively.
The animation was really pretty and I didn't dislike watching the arc, it just felt so discordant and out of place with every other plotline in the series.
