This retard is genuinely hilarious. While maybe not as edgy, he harkens back to a time of earlier let's plays and Newgrounds to the point he wouldn't be out of place as a guest on Jon-era Game Grumps/Oneyplays/Sleepycabin/etc while having just a dash of Jerma. Considering who his PL is, this all makes sense.
My only problem with him is more the fanbase than him. Women REALLY like him while a lot of men won't give him a chance, which reflects poorly on both of them. People say he panders, but all he does is talks to his fanbase, something those that are appreciative of having one SHOULD do. And yet his content and humor is pretty in line with gaming and twitch channels with 90%+ male audiences. Is it literally just the model? If it was a bit uglier and his content was identical, would the straight males like me be the majority of his viewers and not the anomaly? I felt similarly about Mysta at first despite him clearly younger and not "old internet" as much, but he started leaning in to his 90% female audience and changed his content to fit that. I fortunately don't think Bettel will ever go down that route from a combination of not being comfortable with it and not knowing how to do it beyond "just be nice to them".
