Managed to get NFSU2 installed with the widescreen patch, been playing a bit of that. Game is simple but kind of great, the soundtrack really ties it together. Also Most Wanted was good thinking back and I remember playing NFS2:SE and NFS3 back in the day as well.

Which older Need For Speed title is your favorite?

Also there is a bunch of widescreen fixes here for NFS titles that work pretty well: https://thirteenag.github.io/wfp#nfs

It was considered bad because it wasn't underground 3 and that's basically it.
Since the chances of having anything remotely looking like a good need for speed has died, it's been seeing a lot more love recently.

You managed to get every single thing about the game wrong congratulations. The GT wannabe was NFS shift.

Most Wanted for me, although I wouldn't call it a racing game in any way. I played it a ton and most of the time was spent on battling the cops, same with NFS3 PC which I've barely played outside of Pursuit mode. I've just recently tried NFS3 PS1 and it plays like a totally different game, the AI is a shameless cheating bastard (unlik the PC version where it at least tries to pretend it doesn't cheat).
I remember nothing of NFS2, although I definitely did play it.
NFS1 surprised me with decent physics, but NFS5 had the best physics of them all, I think, too bad it only had Porshe cars to drive.
NFS4 was alright, so was the Underground series which I liked for the kind of open world'y feeling.
Pro Street and Undercover didn't impress me either way, I think I beat them once and never touched again.
All things considered, OG MW was the most fun, I should revisit it sometime, along with Burnout Paradise where most of my time went into getting the longest killing spree in getaway mode on the undercover cop cruiser. 50 kills is definitely doable before you run out of the repair stations on the map.

how is it not correct? ProStreet wanted to focus on Simulation driving instead of the arcadey that was the whole point of NFS. No Copchases which was a staple of NFS. The whole game felt like it was ashamed to be associate with the NFS franchise. ''uhhh illigal street races are bad kiddos, dont do them here race legitely on a zog sponsored racetrack. see arent we cooler than those dirty criminals huh...''

>ProStreet wanted to focus on Simulation driving instead of the arcadey that was the whole point of NFS.
Nothing about Prostreet's handling is more simulation than the previous games other than the damage modeling. I guess the artificial input delay counts? Most people agree that was a mistake though and patch it out right away.
>No Copchases which was a staple of NFS.
Hardly, considering it's missing from both Undergrounds with all their praise, was a total afterthought in Carbon, and the Hot Pursuits differentiated it from regular racing with HP2 having entirely separate career trees for normal races and races with police involved.
> ''uhhh illigal street races are bad kiddos, dont do them here race legitely on a zog sponsored racetrack. see arent we cooler than those dirty criminals huh...''
Or it was just a crack at representing a somewhat realistic sanctioned track-day environment like people attend in real life. At no point does it go 'illegal street races are bad,' in fact it regularly makes jokes about how half the racers ingame will be running from the 5-0 or paying tow truck fees that same night. Plus, we both know that that's fucking set dressing and the only actual gameplay difference it has is that Prostreet doesn't have traffic in races.

I liked Underground 2 at the time. It had what I wanted, courtesy of the F&F movies, of course. But online multiplayer was so bad even a classmate of mine brought it up one day. Also that series of boss races at the end fell flat due to the simple fact that my ride was already too fast for them.

I played all of them because my older brother was into him so I got them because I liked that he took an interest in video games. Carbon was the only one we missed but ProStreet was definitely when it started to become shit. I think it was because of the era a bit as well, every other racing game become more tight and shitty and less fun to control because I guess they were focusing more on console and steering wheels and shit.
I didn't like the controls in ProStreet but it had enough to keep me interested. Shift was the one where I just gave up on NFS because it was fucking terrible.

Why? You can separate the art from the artist, especially if it's a whole band and not just one guy.
Now if you take up NFSU in 2023 and choose the Lostprophets car as your designated ride, that's a whole other story, and not just because that things SUCKS.

On topic: My favorite one is probably NFSU. I enjoy it for its compactness, being comfy, letting me make my heaven/hell 350Z or snake RX-7 and being my go-to "come home from drinking" game.

Played U2 to Carbon on release, also Hot Pursuits (gonna try remastered version on Switch) and Run. Tried to play Pro Street (kinda liked the anesthetics) and some of the newer ones but dropped.
Finished U1 just recently and it feels like U2's retarded brother. I know it's assbackwards thinking but goddammit it feels like there're only three big tracks for 100+ races...
I think MW, Run and HP2 are my favorites.

Love all the gamecube ones except Underground 2. It's the only one I can't get into. It's like a bloated version of Underground 1, where all the additions were unnecessary. That said, Underground 1 is the only one where I've been having trouble with the rubberbanding, aside from DS titles.
Underground 2 DS, Most Wanted and Carbon are tied as my favourites.

Going to try the PS1 titles now with the PS1 emulator for wii.
