Similarly to how DKC2 looked and sounded compared to DKC1, DKC3 has a wholly unique aesthetic and atmosphere compared to the first two entries in the Country series. While the overworld/map screens are arguably the most inviting any DKC game has ever been, some of the creature and monster designs are equally the most off putting and strange yet. The soundtrack is a high point for me too - it has some subtle highs and lows that for me, are some of the best songs in the series. It's a shame that DKC3 is the DKC game with the most duds for levels. And typically, these levels that are duds are considered duds almost purely because their gimmick makes the level a little too slow, or the gimmick itself outstays its welcome. Like the DKC2 hot air balloon level, but magnified times three. If those four or five levels got reworked, I think the reception to DKC3 would be warmer in general. I think the hate for Kiddy Kong is overblown as well, although, at this point, everyone being united in hating him is a charming thing in and of itself.

good times playing this on snes9x at my mother's house in the forest on a 1999 computer with no internet when I was young
good game but not as good as 1 & 2

Not trying to be a contrarian but I rank the series as 1>3>2, maybe because it's the order I played them as a kid idk
I never got the hate for the baby, I think it's a cool character and nobody complained about it as a kid at least in my town.
I love the north american setting, maybe because as a third worlder it looks exotic to me lol
I already 100%'d it about 3 times. I only 100% 2 once and never touched it again. I never 100% 1 despite being my favorite, I just don't think the bonus levels are as important in that game.

3 was the one I enjoyed the most on SNES

I liked 3 but the overworld stuff was gay and made the real ending feel anticlimactic
The secrets are the most fun to find dkc3

anticlimactic how?

>> No.9877442

The DKC3 bosses are thematically all over the place and ultimately don't really impact.

I actually like the game itself. But holy shit.

3 and 2 have the most memorable worlds for me. As a kid, my grandma had a cabin up in the mountains and id bring along my snes and dkc 2 and 3. The haunted forest of 2 and the wilderness of 3 always resonated with me while playing them in this environment and the whole of dkc3 in particular i associate with that location.

DKC3 is my favorite of the trilogy. I like the world map and the setting is comfy. My biggest complaint is Ellie since her whole gimmick sucks compared to Rambi. I always use the color code because I like purple and green more than pink and blue.

Don't know if its nostalgia, but the gba soundtrack sucked.

The entire game was all over the place since the majority of levels were built around a one-time gimmick. Not saying that's bad, just inconsistent.

NTA, but I felt the same way. In DKC2, getting the best ending was awesome. You do need to get all the Kremcoins, but not the DK coins, and it culminates in a final battle against K. Rool. Meanwhile, in DKC3, you need to get all the Bonus Coins so that you can fight K. Rool again, but you don't get another ending from that. You then need to get all the DK coins so you can unlock the Gyrocopter, and this only so that you can find all the Banana Birds, and only THEN you get the real ending, and it's just a cutscene that ends in a gag. It feels weird and disconnected.

I think the GBA soundtrack is good but disjointed and doesn't fit the game. Allegedly Wise only had 6 weeks to compose it, and it really fucking feels like it. Several tracks are good on their own but aren't good in the context of the game itself.

Yeah they really should have made at least one secret level only accessible with the copter. Maybe the banana bird mother is at the end of this really difficult level set above the cloud and once you beat it you get the ending cutscene.

bro that barrel just unlocked a memory. there was this weird toy they used to sell back in the late 90s or early 2000s that was this little plastic barrel with a small in the side with an eye looking out of it, and you could press a button to make it say "HELP" or something like that. i looked it up and i can't find anything about it. does anybody remember this?

I love Kiddy's pissed off scream when you die. It takes the edge of frustration off and helps you laugh at yourself.

I absolutely love how it sounds like an angry alcoholic 55 year old from england, it's so out of place

I loved DK3 growing up. I even beat the game too. But the bosses were imaginative, and the settings were very immersive with like snow fall, and tree climbing levels. I enjoyed the barrel monster fight. And the two main characters worked well together with their strengths and what not.

I just remember not really liking the parrot levels because the parrot flew very slow and they were long levels and were sometimes boring / difficult.

I think the artstyle in 3 is dogshit desu, I don't know what it is that I find so offputting about it compared to the first two but I hate it. I don't care about the characters either at least 2 had diddy.

>> No.9880807

They really should've brought him back for the third game. Alternatively, one of the things that would've been really cool is unlocking DK and Diddy as playable characters after beating K. Rool (you do rescue them, after all). Wonder how hard it would be to make a ROM hack to do this.
