JAMMA is a set of wiring standards for arcade machines that enabled operators to swap game boards in and out of the machine without needing to rewire it for every new game.
A supergun is the guts of an arcade cabinet mounted inside a small box minus the monitor.
Some superguns have joysticks built into them and some use console-style controllers that plug in.

>don't pretend repairs are not a part of old tubes
Literally never repaired a CRT in my entire life and have owned 30+ of them over the last 25 years. Had only one ever up and die on me.
There's no reason why a beginner would need to worry about repairing a CRT while building a MAME cabinet. Just find a working unit and stick it in there case and all.
>depth
This is why commercial cabs tended to mount the CRT facing upwards instead of horizontally.
This is still no problem for them home builder because they can easily wedge the whole CRT case and all down between a couple of 2x4s.
