What is the best way to play retro games on an HD monitor/tv? What does /vr/ reccomend?

RetroTINK5X Pro, got one and once you perform the firmware update it's like magic. You'll need to buy Scart RGB or progressive scan cables for the systems that are compatible to get the most out of it, though.

For now, its the Retrotink 5X with either scart or component cables. They're fags but RetroRGB and My Life in Gaming are good resources for learning about all that stuff and how to get the best picture from older consoles through scalers.

In a year or two we'll get the 4K scalers like OSSC Pro, Pixelmorph FX and the Retrotink 4K but I highly suspect they'll be verrrry expensive. I've used the Framemeister, OSSC and now the Retrotink 5X pretty extensively and I can safely say that the Retrotink is the easiest, most user friendly and feature rich of them all. It eliminated a lot of the bullshit present in those earlier scalers and Mike Chi regularly adds cool new features through firmware updates. You'll get weirdos on here saying that the OSSC is still king but it's genuinely just not true in any factual way.

You can also build yourself a gbs-control. Cheapest viable option.

Or just get this custom prebuild one. Still cheaper than an OSSC but comes with motion adaptive deinterlacing for PS2 games.
