Recently played the Win95/98 version of Puyo Puyo Sun and it was pretty fun. Are there other old japanese PC for Windows that are worth playing?

This one seems pretty cool but I haven't had any luck getting it running with everything working, either through virtualbox or on wine. Anybody played it? I think it has a sequel on PC98, too.

Also Bunny Must Die is probably retro by now, that's a good one.

If it's anything like other games, you need Japanese region windows 98 installed on PCem. I'll try it myself later.

>> No.9260973

>>9260873
I only tried it in Virtualbox. I messed around with setting up PCem but for some reason couldn't get it to detect the Windows ISO to actually install the OS. It was too much of a pain in the ass so I gave up. Good luck anon.

>> No.9261064

>>9260973
I've already got it set up. PCem can be kind of a pain because old PCs are kind of a pain in general. For Windows 98 you need a boot floppy. You can't boot directly off the CD-ROM drive.

I thought that was for 95, and 98 didn't need the floppy. Either way I don't know what I was doing because I had both the disc and the floppy in drives but the bios couldn't seem to find them.

i managed to run it in wine but it runs at 5fps and has no music

Yeah, that's about as far as I got. I think I managed similar in Virtualbox with slightly better performance but there were some other issues I don't remember right now.

To the anon who was gonna try it on pcem, if you google the game's name it has a webpage still up with the recommended specs, if that helps.

>> No.9261595

isn't there some cycle accurate pentium emulation or something that needs a current cpu? i'm entirely guessing out of my ass but it would let you play old games but it may actually have slowdown trying to emulate

So I tried this fucking thing in PCem like I said I would. And .. it's just as bad in PCem as anywhere else. It's just a slow-ass, plodding game with extremely slow movement and animation no matter what. At least the music worked, and the text was properly in Japanese. lol

Sounds about as good as I got on a VM except that you got the music working. Every Japanese win 95 or 98 I could find wouldn't give me functional sound at all.

Japanese windows ports are so weird sometimes. Also don't know about you guys but I gave up on PCem, runs slow as fuck for me and I tried everything.

What's the oldest I can go that could still play everything? I tried going older and still choked but maybe I haven't went old enough.

Never had issues with vmplayer, but I recognize the difference in features could make PCem more attractive.

Yeah, the Ys series is one of my favorites. The ones on PC are really well done. It was really gorgeous art and refined that I had to preorder from the falcom shop for the 2nd Eternal game. I also like the TITS series, there's a lot of character in its whole world, and I did not expect it to be the same as the Ys series.

>>9266501
Thanks. Not many do, but I like the original physical stuff as well as digital releases. It is simply because I come from a different time and I'm just used to having them that way.

I finally got Tobi D+vine to play with music! If you have some bin + cue game where the music tracks are not playing and are seemingly not in the disc, all you have to do is to mount the .cue file with ImgDrive, and check what drive (C:, D:, etc) is the disc mapped to in said file, just in case.
