It's the most aesthetic game ever. I wish they remade jrpgs like this, rather than in the 2D-HD style of Live-Alive and Octopath.

Pure soul. There’s something about the added depth from the 3D environments coupled with the intricate animations of the 2D sprites that 3D models at the time just couldn’t replicate.

Not technically an overworld but Final Fantasy Tactics has 2D on 3D.
Xenogears also but it's a bit awkward at times.

prerendered 3d "sprites" isn't exactly what people mean by 2d sprites

I've NEVER heard anyone ANYWHERE online talk about this game, and I even had a login to rosenstore back when NIS had their own storefront in the early 00s. Not here, not gamefaqs, not irc. JFC.

I've had the box set since it came out. I got it because I was a HUGE HUGE HUGE Ar Tonelico fan. It was a cool game, a mix of ArT and the Altier games of the time.

Then again most people use the word "sprite" wrong and don't even know what a sprite really is.

I think the pre-rendered sprites like the Shining and Legend of Heroes have a special charm but very unlike the classic 2D sprites.

Atelier is rather niche, and it's not obvious Mana Khemia is part of the Atelier series. Funnily it was released between Persona 3 and 4 and has a big emphasis on a school setting and character relationships on top of being a JRPG, they would've loved it.

Mana Khemia was a lot more fun, more engaging with the dynamics, better enemies, better colors, more sidequests with other students, and a lot better music. Total shame they missed out on it.

Yeah, I liked it a lot. I also bought it off of Rosencrantz when it was still themed around Rosencrantz. Was dope. I have a sealed copy of the second one's special edition even.

Mana Khemia PS2 titles worth the $40-60 they go for on ebay? I've head of them somewhat vaguely and would love some games that are both new to me and good time sinks.

>> No.9231220

Yes, but there's a bug where the postgame dungeon is crash-happy. The PSP version fixes it but has its own downsides. Aside from that they are good games.

Nikki best girl.

I like them. I mean, I paid 50 bucks for them at release, so whatever. I'd say just pirate. Might be a situation where there's some patch that improves the crash issues of the games.

I think it's the best of them (I haven't played Dragon Quarter though) so if you liked the others you will. I find it sags in the middle for a while but is worth it in the end and has some amazing pay off moments. One of the best RPGs of it's era easily.
