Also, I still think that whatever Frederik was playing in that reveal trailer was just a mockup and not the actual port they were working on, it didn't look enhanced in any way as far as I can tell.

I wish they'd hurry it up. ROTT deserves more love. I wish they'd do an enhanced console port of the modern ROTT remake as well but that'll probably never happen. That game has a bad reputation but it's totally decent and fun in a way most modern shooters aren't.

>I wish they'd do an enhanced console port of the modern ROTT remake as well but that'll probably never happen.
I remember watching a bunch of interviews in the leadup to RoTT 2013's release and I recall Dave Oshry mentioning in one of them that they had plans to port the game to PS3 and 360 at the time and were also considering PS4 and Xbox One ports (can't say if this info is 100% accurate but it's been almost 9 years so bear with me here). They most likely decided not to port it because of its poor reception. Not gonna lie though, I think a new version of the game could be interesting if only for the fact that they'd have a chance at making the game properly optimized and add some much needed polish to it as well (and they could also give it away for free for those who own the original), though like you said, it'll probably never happen. Probably never gonna get a sequel either despite the sequel-baiting ending.

Probably >>8693585 and Scott Miller being... odd. Dude seems to be pretty passive aggressive towards 3DR all of the sadden while acting like nu-Apogee he recently joined is actually "The Apogee" because he's there. Even though that's not how that works: you can't just yoink a bunch of old titles from original company and then pretend like nothing happened because "well, I am Apogee and 3D Realms is a stupid name".
>>8693663
>Probably never gonna get a sequel either despite the sequel-baiting ending.
>However, since Rise of the Triad is one of the games Apogee currently controls, it could have a bigger comeback. Although nothing is set in stone, and developing in-house games is still out of Apogee’s budget, Miller hopes that the company can someday develop all-new games set in the Rise of the Triad universe. But before that, he would want to change some aspects of the IP itself.
>“It’s been an arcadey IP this whole time, and we want to treat it more seriously forward by developing the backstory and focusing on the characters,” Miller said. “We’re still going to have humor, but like Max Payne, you can have both.”
I hope you are right, anon. I hope you are right.

TNT is a pretty mixed bag of content, being a very early Usenet community project, one of the very first full Doom 2 megawads, in fact, and it shows. Some authors were better than others, and there was some contention over the direction of TNT, so the end result is a set of level that varies a lot, particularly in quality, (but surprisingly, manages to actually come to some sort of style and aesthetic, even though there was no concerted effort to create one).
Some authors made it a point to show off tricks they figured out or learned about the engine, that they wanted their maps to be 'cutting edge', so that's why you have a midtexture door and fake deep water in MAP02, a secret requiring an Arch-Vile Jump in MAP11, a puzzle in MAP30 where the wrong step made you telefrag your VooDoo Doll, and a huge 'sky door' in MAP32, among a bunch of other stuff. You could really brag as a mapper about that kinda shit back then.

In the end, what you have are a couple of shitty maps, a couple few forgettable ones, a bunch which are actually pretty good, along with a few which are actually quite excellent, and all of them set to a really sweet soundtrack. By 1994/1995 standards, it's a pretty damn good megawad.
I think the best description I've seen is that Plutonia is primarily very combat oriented, thus most of its maps are pretty short and intense, while Evilution is much more about the adventure, so size and length varies a lot, with some levels being very large and lengthy (some people like this, some people don't).

There are some things shared between them, sure. But the bulk of things in 64 are exclusive to 64.
>All new levels
>New weapon sprites
>New monster sprites
>New soundtrack by Aubrey Hodges
>Beefed up monsters (Nightmare Imp moves faster and has faster projectiles, Lost Souls are more aggressive, Pain Elementals shoot two Souls at once, Cyberdemon rockets are faster, the Revenant ascended and became an invincible turret, etc)
>Mother Demon
>Unmaker
>Demon Keys in secret levels that you can use to upgrade the Unmaker and close portals in the final level
>Super secret level that unlocks a cheat menu and level warp, including three extra "fun" levels
>The best ending in the series where Doomguy roams Hell forever to make sure the demons stay down for good

It was a group effort between 3D Realms, Apogee Entertainment and Destructive Creations. No idea if latter are still involved, but article mentiones "publishing rights" specifically.
Funnily enough, nothing was said about Cosmo's remaster. It looked like another Emberheart Games project, but Primoz said that he wasn't involved with this one. Original game still attached to 3D Realms from the looks of it, so that's curious.

Is there any obvious reason I'm missing here that would make this cause freezes? They happen when this monster shoots, but it's not consistent when and where.

Missile:
NPM2 E 12 A_FaceTarget
TNT1 A 0 A_JumpIfInventory("FriendAmmo",1,1)
Goto Reload
TNT1 A 0 A_TakeInventory("FriendAmmo",1)
TNT1 A 0 A_PlaySound("ARWP/WBG/FR1")
TNT1 A 0 A_CustomBulletAttack(3.1, 2.5, 1, 8,"ARBullet_Puff")
NPM2 F 1 BRIGHT A_AlertMonsters(0,AMF_TARGETEMITTER)
NPM2 E 1 A_FaceTarget

Missile:

This shit makes no sense. Only thing I changed yesterday was give this monster A_AlertMonsters(0,AMF_TARGETEMITTER), which at that point made the game freeze instantly as soon as he fired. Then I changed the range from 0 to 4096, and I thought that fixed it, but it would still freeze invariably when the monster fired his gun, just never on the first shot but eventually, making it impossible to finish a single level. I changed back to 0 for testing purposes and it kept this new behavior instead of going back to freezing on first shot.

I fiddled with it and even removed the line altogether, but it kept freezing and now also freezes when I kill a (non-related) monster with a certain gun. I changed nothing about such gun or such monster, didn't update lzdoom, didn't update drivers, nothing. It simply stopped working. It's fucking frustrating.

Doubtful, and I don’t know if you’re missing a whole lot since the levels feel otherwise like demakes without the colored lighting and PSX atmosphere.
Partially related, there’s a vanilla mod called “Doom 64 for Doom 2” if you want to trade in 64’s miscellaneous changes for more of 2’s roster and traditional gameplay.

>> No.8696463

God no, Frankenspriting like usual, especially for this monstrosity. I'm slicing up the entire sheet into a layered .psd so I can alter the color and contrast for an element on every single frame and then shove .png version of that colored sheet into Slade so I can see if the palette rapes it or not. This could probably be done smarter still, but even a year ago I wouldn't have even glanced at an undertaking like this, because my workflow was too retarded.
I'll get to retouching some details after it's all parted up and I've ensured the palette won't betray me, and that will probably be the easiest part of this graphic.

I should really learn how to do this kind of work within the palette.

The 2013 game is a bit like Doom 4, so if you like that game, you'll probably like this one too. If you don't like Doom 4, you will not like it, being better in a few ways, and worse in others.

I thought the 'first' one was pretty nice, but also pretty flawed. I was thinking it had a lot of potential, and was hoping the sequel would be better and fix its flaws, making for a really good game, but instead the sequel is massively dumbed down lootershooter garbage with fake procedurally generated levels that repeat endlessly. The third one isn't supposed to be a lootershooter, but I'm honestly afraid to look.

If you want something like the original Shadow Warrior, you won't really find much of that in these games.

Yeah, it’s one I seriously underestimated. The new Serious Sam isn’t subtle about it’s influences, though, with the character introductions being nearly 1:1 to how they’re done in the Borderlands games:
>introduce character saying something snarky or doing something totally “badass :D”
>camera zooms in, freezes, CHARACTER NAME: “Badass/hilarious” subtitle
The game’s still fun so there’s the irony, but I would’ve preferred they kept it as simple as the previous ones.

Here's your intro:
The lust spell has come. An undying horde of sluts is spreading across the world. Weapons have failed to stop them. Magic has failed to turn them back. Even desperate alliances between light and shadow have been to no avail. All fall to the horde. All are converted into bimbos. The slutty horde cannot be killed, only satiated.

But all is not lost. At the pinnacle of the continent's highest mountain peaks, a terrifying futanari is stirring from her slumber. Legends speak of her strength, her swiftness and her cunning. The people whisper four words among themselves.

"The Jotun is coming."

Similar gameplay loop to HDoom. Shoot enemies, bang them. Enemies will do an AoE stun effect rather than pausing the game, plus you aren't invulnerable in the middle of a HScene. A bunch of custom weapons including one that hypnotizes enemies into friendlies and a tentacle gun that fires eggs. Pic below is concept art plus different colour palettes.

You're absolutely right about that, which isn't why we're making her colour selectable. You would also have to change her palette whenever she bangs an enemy as well, which would be an absolute clusterfuck to pull off. The different palettes were primarily to see what looks best. We ended up choosing row 2, column 3 as her canon colours.

Hard to say really, "clausterphobic" is just how low difficulty/low enemy count maps keep things interesting, if it's a big open map you generally have it populated and challenging. There's some exceptions, like DOOM's own Mt. Erebus, but those are usually not the focus.
Maybe something like hellbound, it has its cramped interiors but a lot of breathing room inbetween and is very visually appealing. Pirate doom is quite the departure but all the levels are very open from what I remember.
If that's not enough maybe find a few single map .wads instead of any one mapset, can't think of any off the top of my head (foursite maybe?).

Yes, with UMAPINFO you can shape whatever episodes you want, levels can exit and secret exit to whatever levels you want them to, and you can allow full telefragging and the use of 666 and 667 specials however the hell you want!

Doom has a lot of history, so perhaps knowing about some of it might make one more open-minded or see things differently. Cover between pumps as well as breaking enemy attack windup by popping in and out out cover seem like essential strategies that come naturally and without which playing these games at anything above medium difficulty is simply unviable. Absolutely. It’s one of the biggest disdains people have towards hitscanners in general, how often they can’t just “go fast” enough to avoid the damage. It’s a reason Brutal Doom is so popular because with it, you can.
The new Dooms have further aligned with this style of gameplay by ditching hitscanning attacks and encouraging you to stay in the thick of things with their health and armor recovery mechanics.

I find one of the best parts of these old games is that there's a mix. There's a balance between reflexive, split-second action and slower, more careful firefights, just like there's a balance between combat and exploration. I think the reason these throwbacks lean so hard into one end of the spectrum is because they wanted to both market to nostalgia and stand out from the cover-based FPS games in style.

Yes, because of the obscene overreliance on cover mechanics in AAA first person shooters and third person shooters for many, many years, some idiots genuinely got the impression that the entire IDEA of taking cover was inherently bad design.
Because games like Doom and Quake weren't like these cover shooter games (ergo, there's no special button you press to glue your player onto a dedicated piece of scenery, monsters have near zero self-preservation instincts, and aggressive tactics are actually valuable), you "didn't use cover" in classic shooters.
You know, in spite of Quake and Doom 2 each featuring a monster where the only way to avoid their punishing ranged attack is to break line sight before it strikes, aside from all the other countless instances where the use of cover makes perfect sense.

>still no basic crispy features like colored blood
That's a really common feature in gameplay mods already, and a really, really easy and small patch to just make yourself (or find lying around).

>also gameplay changing shit like partial invisibility becoming true invisibility being on by default even when running classic .wads
I think that's something that comes from either Heretic or Hexen (GzDoom is built on the published Doom sourcecode, but also on a lot of Hexen's), and it actually depends on your movement speed, if you walk slowly you're invisible, if you leg it, monsters can see you.
I don't know why this is the default behavior, but I guess to make the Partial Invisibility a lot more useful? It's a rather situational powerup originally, but that's one of those things which you figure would be a thing from a mod.
You can change this in settings to original behavior though.

Why are you insisting on autism for autism's sake? It's baffling. BTW if you haven't caught on, my ire is aroused because this crap happens on these threads all the time. I'm guessing you contribute to it. Again, without any good reason.

So did anyone try Not Even Remotely Fair on any difficulty besides Nightmare yet?

Curiosities sake, simple question was provided a simple answer: The mod does too much for him right now and that’s fine. It was far less worse than whining posts like >>8704715

Oh hell yes thank you. I know you can mess with weapon speeds, can you do the same to monster speeds?
If you don’t know then no biggie, I’ll see what I can figure out.

Yeah, the theme and aesthetics are great, but Ive always felt the level design was overly confusing.

And people say the Smithsonian level in the DC expansion was confusing, but somehow I didnt get lost at all in that level.

Does this general still play pure Quakeworld? I got hit by some powerful nostalgia from watching this
