What are the best Darius games? I liked Super Nova on SNES.

Try playing them all in release order. From 1st to Burst. It's honestly quite impressive how this series grew over time. The only game I didn't enjoy was Twin because of the unusually awful music.

Honestly Gaiden is a bit overrated, much too easy once you know how to control rank.

Some bosses are brutal no matter what. And Darius II is only harder because of powerups being deleted entirely after dying.

The SFC games are among the low points of the series.

Gaiden, G-Darius and DariusBurst are superb.

Gaiden for graphics and beauty. G darius for gameplay and LAZORSS. And scoring.

While one of the most gorgeous games ever created, gaiden's gameplay is hindered, as someone else said, by rank control, and is just not vert deep scoring wise etc. Not that G is that deep, but it's still decent in that aspect with many cool tricks you could do, and semi limited milking. Not insane milking at least.

Also while nothing beats gaiden for music and visuals, G has it's moments, in a different way. Queen fossil and variations are possibly the coolest dopest thing you will see in a videogame, There may be something, but I don't know anything cooler myself. And tracks like Adam are amazing. Plus SFX also rule, and boss animation in general, even if they're in butt PSX era 3D.
